Cristina is the second child of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain. She has an older sister, Elena and a younger brother, Felipe, who is the heir to the throne. After secondary education Cristina studied Political Science in Madrid, which she finished in 1989 with a degree. She also obtained a Master's degree in International Relations at the University of New York. She was employed at the UNESCO for a while and now lives in Barcelona, where she works for La Caixa Foundation. Cristina is a very sports engaged woman. She participated in the 1988 Seoul Olympics as a sailor. In 1996 she met her husband, handball player Iñaki Urdangarín, at the Atlanta Games. The couple got married a year later on October 4th, 1997. Cristina and Iñaki have three sons, Juan Valentín, who was born on September 29th, 1999; Pablo Nicolás, born on December 6th, 2000 and Miguel, born April 30th, 2002; all at the Clinica Teknon in Barcelona. |
