Willem-Alexander and Máxima to
marry on 02-02-2002 in Amsterdam
May 21st, 2001 - Crown Prince Willem-Alexander
and Máxima Zorreguieta will marry in Amsterdam on February 2nd, 2002.
This was made public today, when Prime Minister
Kok send the act of consent for the marriage to the Dutch Chambers.
The couple decided on the date by themself. It
is not yet known if Máxima will remain Catholic or if she will join the Protestant
religion. The marriage will however be confirmed in a protestant church.
The following can be drawn from the act:
- Máxima will get the title 'Prinses der Nederland, Prinses van
Oranje-Nassau' on the occassion of her wedding. This means she will become 'noblesse'. She
will be known as 'Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands'. Máxima will
not get the title Princess of Orange, but because she is the wife of the Prince of Orange,
she can use this title. However she will not do that. In line with this, Máxima can use
the 'title' mrs. van Amsberg after her marriage.
- Máxima got her Dutch citizinship on May 17th, 2001; she will
remain her Argentine one, but without any constitutional rights (Argentine law does not
permit her to give up her citizinship).
- Children to be born from the marriage will have the Dutch
citizinship, but can opt for the Argentine one. If they do so, they will loose their
rights to the Dutch throne.
- Children will get the title 'Prince(ss) of the Netherlands,
Prince(ss) of Oranje-Nassau'.
- Civil and Church wedding are on the same day.
The Dutch chambers will discuss and vote on the act of
consent on July 3th.
