Baby girl for Maurits and Marilène

Prince Maurits with his daughter AnnaApril 15th, 2001 -  This morning at a little past 8 a.m., Princess Marilène of Orange-Nassau gave birth to a baby daughter.

The baby was born at home in Amsterdam, weights 3620g and is in perfect health.

Prince Maurits told the RVD (Rijks Voorlichtings Dienst), that he and his wife are overjoyed with the birth of their first child.

The girl has been given the full name Anastasia Margriet Joséphine van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Vollenhoven. Her first name is Anna. She has been named after her two grandmothers, Princess Margriet and Josée van den Broek. Maurits and his wife chosed the name Anastasia (from the Greek 'anastasis' or 'an-istamai'), which means 'resurection', because she was born on easter morning.

By law (this was decided when Maurits and Marilène were married), Anna was given the last name van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Vollenhoven. She has no noble titles, because her father's title is a personal one.

It is the first grandchild for Princess Margriet and Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven.
