Henri, the new Grand Duke of Luxemburg

Henri is sworn inOctober 9th, 2000 -  After a reign of 36 years Grand Duke Jean of Luxemburg stept down last Saturday to give the country their new monarch, 45 year old Henri.

The ceremony was originally planned for September 28th, but was posponed due to the car accident that involved Jean's youngest son, Guillaume.

Guillaume still remains in serious condition, however, doctors affirmed his condition is progressing. The prince left the intensive care a week ago and is slowly coming out of a coma.

The new Grand Duke and his family walked from parliament to the cathedral, there was also a balcony scene.

Most of the festivities have been posponed to the spring.

The Grand Duke and his wife, Cuban born Maria Teresa Mestre, have five children: the new hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume (19), Felix (16), Louis (12), Alexandra (9) and Sebastien (8).
